Study on the Psychopharmacological Assay of Centrally Acting Drugs in Rat

Abstract
It is reported that chlorpromazine shows one of the significant drug having tranquilizing action, studied by an acquisition and extinction of an avoidance response in the animal (Herz, 1960. Cook Kelleher, 1963).
There after the effects of the extinction and acquisition of an avoidance response in the animal is used as one of the method of standardization on the centrally acting drugs and the result is used for determination of the level on the effect of the tranquillizing action.
Benzodiazepine group (chlordiazepoxide hcl and diazepam) is choose among as one of the centrally acting drugs and studied on the acquisition and extinction of an avoidance conditioning in rat, comparing the effect of chlorpromazine, used the Shuttl-box and summarized as follow;
It is observed that the effect of tranquilizing action of chlorpromazine(phenodiazine group) shows most effectively in rat as mentioned above, on the cantrally in the benzodiazepine group can not observed the effects of tranquilizing action significantly in this study.
In these results, the study of the effects on instrumental avoidance conditioning in Shuttle box is not suitable method for the standardization of tranquilizing action on the drugs of benzodiazepine group as the centrally acting medicines.
